Stephen Siller Tunnel to Tower 5k (September 27, 2015)

Running is a release and racing is a reward. It’s a great feeling when a race for a great cause fits perfectly into your training schedule. I’m running my next marathon in Bangkok on November 15th and I have been looking for a destination race in the last week of September to test out my new running shoes.

On September 11, 2001, Stephen Siller was on his way to meet his brother after working the late shift as a firefighter in Squad 1, Park Slope, Brooklyn. He heard over his scanner that a plane hit the first tower and went back to the station to pick up his gear. He drove himself to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel and discovered the tunnel was closed. He ran through the tunnel with 60 pounds of gear to get to the towers.

Everybody remembers where they were on 9/11 and I think this race is a great way to commemorate the victims and raise money for charities that support their families.

Registration is $70 but if you use Promo Code: “Run2015” at checkout (expires September 10th) you can save $10 off registration. I have family and friends in NYC and if the timing works out I hope I can run this race with a big group of people.

Here is a link to the Registration Page if you are interested in this race.
