2013 Finland, Estonia & Russia

This trip was born because of my family’s obsessive desire to visit our friend Ambassador Jeffrey Levine and his family while they were posted overseas. My parents flew to Amsterdam a week before myself and Ashley (my sister). I finished an intermediate accounting final less than 12 hours before heading to the airport!

We were scheduled to fly American Airlines and Finnair from Washington DC to Chicago to Helsinki. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of not looking at our tickets and told the cab we were flying out of Dulles-IAD. I caught my mistake just as we were pulling up to the airport. Ashley was not happy and our driver caught on to the developing problem. He got us to Reagan National-DCA in time for our flight and we walked into the terminal with my wallet significantly lighter.

Of course, our flight to Chicago was delayed and there was no flight that would get us there in time to make our connection to Helsinki. Ashley insisted that we leave that day and the agent rebooked us on a Lufthansa flight leaving that night from Dulles-IAD. Back to the taxi stand.

The delay cost us a half day in Helsinki 🙁
