Thousands of runners descended on Boston, Massachusetts to run the Boston Marathon. If you are a seasoned runner you are well versed in the lore and lure of Boston. Boston is many things and if you are starting to run you will quickly pick up on the prestige afforded to runners who Qualify for Boston (known as a BQ). It is the oldest annual marathon in the world and you have to qualify by putting up a time worthy of the honor.
For men 18-34, you need to run faster than 3h 05m and women need to get below 3h 35m. This equates to sub 7 minute miles for men. The fastest men average sub 5 minute miles. I’m hoping to run sub 9 minute miles in my first marathon at Dewey Beach to come in under 4 hours.
In 2014, I was running between 8-10 miles a week to fight the weight gain caused from stress eating my way through the CPA exam. This January (2015), I got the idea of training for a half marathon and about a week later I committed myself to a full marathon. I can’t wait to be standing in the starting pits at Dewey fulfilling one goal and celebrating the last couple months of training!
