Trip Expenses: Scandinavian Midsummer 2015

Destination marathoning may cost less than you think. Here’s a quick recap of the expenses during my 13 day trip to Scandinavia in June of 2015. I went to run the Midnight Sun Marathon in Tromsø, Norway (race review here). I spent five days in Stockholm, Sweden, five days in Tromsø, Norway, and three days in Tallinn, Estonia.

  • Atlantic Flights= 60,000 AA miles + $51.70
  • Regional Flights = $565.84
  • Hotels = 232,000 Club Carlson Points
  • Cabs/Ferries/Trains = $159.20
  • Touristy Stuff = $104.84
  • Restaurants = $425.78
  • Race Fees = $124.68

Total = $1,432.04

Scandinavia is very expensive. A drink in Stockholm costs $20 and a hamburger at a restaurant will run you about $30. My hotels all included free breakfast and I made sure to crush food every morning. When I was in Tromsø, Norway I hung out with a friend of mine from High School everyday and she bought me some groceries the day of my race (shout to to Siri!!). When I was in Tallinn, Estonia I stayed with friends and they graciously covered my meals and lodging (huge shout out to Jeff, Janie and Nick!!!) which was awesome and greatly appreciated.

Low cost, luxury travel is my specialty and I love hunting for deals. If you have a dream destination or race you want to attend, drop me an email through my Travel Planning Service and I’ll start hunting for deals and putting a package together for you.
